Sitges is synonymous with culture, sun and beach. Cultural movements of the last century have bequeathed a rich heritage: architecture, painting, etc.. which is one of the main objectives of the visitors. Connected by the Road from the Coast, this town of maritime tradition, is situated in a privileged location between mountains and sea. It retains in one of its coves, the old huts of fishermen, has an important marina and is located at the foot of La Falconera.
Among the most important areas of the vila, the Paseo is, undoubtedly, the gateway to the sea and the axis on which articulates Sitges. The church and the stairs of the jetty are the most important area and where they concentrate most of celebrations and festivities of the city. We should also mention “Cau Ferrat” (1180-1910), “Palau Maricel” (1911-1929), Church of “Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla” (XVI-XVII century) and “Casa del Rellotge” (Clock House), also known as “Casa Carbonell” (1911-1929).
In Sitges takes place every year the Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya. It is the first fantasy film festival in the world. With a solid experience, the Sitges Festival offers fantastic cinema from around the world in an ideal place for meeting, exhibition and projection.
Born in 1968 as 1a Semana Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic i de Terror, the Festival has become a must for movie buffs and to all spectators who want to see the latest trends and new technologies applied to the cinema and audiovisual production. How to get there?
if you come by car from Barcelona, you can take the C-32 motorway towards Sitges. Then take the exit 31 "Sitges Nord", exit 30 "Sitges Centre" or exit 29 "Sant Pere de Ribes". This road carries a toll. They can also leave the motorway C-32 at exit "Castelldefels Platja" and go by the coast road towards Sitges, until reaching the entrance to the neighborhood of "Aiguadolç. This option also provides access to Les Botigues town of Sitges and Garraf.
If you come by train from Barcelona or from Sant Vicenç de Calders, take the Line 2 of RENFE, which stops in Sitges and in Garraf.
